A Quick Show

I just wanted to show you all quickly the finished yarn.....

Finished Spining

After a soak

Ready for knitting

I finished it at the weekend, but I've only managed to blog today.
We've had lots of snow here in Huddersfield this week and I've been busy making a chunky shawl (pictures to follow).

I've no idea what to make with the yarn yet, but I'm sure the colours will look great.

Thanks Steph!

Green is the colour

OK so I think that I might be a little addicted to spinning now! Spinning in colour is so much more fun than using plain cream. I blame it on the colour.

I’ve moved on to the spinning wheel now, for speed and to try to spin a finer yarn. I can get a better consistency to the thickness using the wheel, as I don’t have to let go.

My wheel was a charity shop find from my mum and has a tendency to make a lot of noise. It squeaks, clunks, and creaks. However it does work.

I started by teasing the dyed merino tops until I have a thin strand, which I then wind into a makeshift ball.

Fluff!

This is the first ply. It only took me a couple of hours to spin on the wheel. I had a couple of breaks when the thread got too thin, but I think it looks ok so far.

First Ply

Now for the second ply or should I do some work?

So Proud!

I just had to share this…

Left - Richy      Right - Ash
My very talented husband, Ash, won an award at the weekend and today the Examiner has run an article about it!

He won the Pure Rawk Award for Best Music Video! The video was for Eureka Machines called Pop Star and you can watch it here

The Hat is Finished!

After a little over one week, I now have a hat that was not only knitted by me, but also knitted in yarn spun by me!

Finished hat!

It’s a slouchy hat in stocking stitch so the colours and yarn is shown off. What do you think?

Close up of beautiful spin

In other news, my wardrobe finally got a sort out and I have a bag for the charity shop! Now I can buy new things! Maybe!

It’s Looking Like Something

I’ve finished spinning the red and yellow merino tops that Steph brought for me. I couldn’t put it down. It looks really bright and summery. I halved the total and spun them into single ply, and then I plied them together. Once they were plied, I wound the new yarn around my table legs to make a hank. As you can see, all this couldn't wait until I was out of my pjs!

Putting into a hank
Once it was a hank, it went for a little soak and then I had to wait unitl it was dry!

Beautiful hank!
Also lovely in the ball
I couldn’t wait to knit it and see what it looked like, so as soon as it was dry, after its little bath, I started knitting a couple of samples. These samples quickly got unravelled to start something.

On a 3mm needle

On a 4mm needle, still a little squashed

I didn’t really know what the yarn wanted to be. Sometimes you just know, sometimes you just start knitting and it becomes something. It started just been a tube that could be a cowl. However, during a knit and natter, it was tried on my head. Oooh it fits. It’s a hat!

Knitted in the round, garter stitch edge

I haven’t started the decreasing for the hat yet. I wanted to make it a bit more slouchy first. But it defiantly wants to be a hat.

Cover Girl!

This morning, all my fellow Tea and Tarts got their copy of the WI Life Magazine. It’s the issue where I happen to be in and on the cover of!

The Cover!

All the photos were taken at the shop and in Byram Arcade. I really love the cover photo.

Ooh contents page as well!
This photo was taken on the stairs in Byram Arcade.

The Article
The article was about how I knitted my wedding dress. It has been a popular story, which even got me and my husband on Look North News! I was just very happy to get married to my wonderful Ash.

WI Sew Crafty – Silk Painting

I have the great fortune of leading a workshop last night for my lovely Tea and Tarts. We are Huddersfield’s Women’s Institute.

I was so nervous before I started last night, I don’t know why as everyone is lovely and there were no problems. One lady said I was so nervous because I care. I like that. I care about my fellow Tarts lots.

Anyway, the workshop was all about silk painting. We used the left over silk from my wedding dress and paints from Calder Graphics, who are also in Byram Arcade, (keeping it local). It was a taster to silk painting but there were some very talented creative people. Below are some of my favourite ones (I couldn’t post them all!).

All in all, I had a great time. Thank you ladies! Xx
